After work had about 2 hours to hit High Rock, Lake for a little crappie fishing. This time of year is when "MAGIC" happens and if you hit the water at just the right time you can load the boat with some really "BIG SLAPS". If you live on High Rock Lake or fish, it you know it has been a mess with all the rain we received the last few weeks. Also, just over a week ago the lake was full pond but, now it's about 7ft down. The water clarity is finally starting to clear up and the fish are getting acclimated to the water. Yesterday I was able to put about 15 in the boat in the short time I was there. Had to go through several colors and shapes before I could figure out what they wanted. The bait of choice was a small paddle tail bait in the color of clear pepper. I was throwing it with a 1/16 oz jig head and 6lb test. The big ones are still in 25ft of water and suspended in anywhere from 4 to 8 foot of water. I did notice something that maybe a sign to what's the come. I noticed that there were several fish swimming in groups of 2s and 3s. that being said it tells me that they are ready to move in at any time to spawn. But remember God's nature will not lie to you. Watch the trees just like my Dad and Papa would always tell me as a kid. When the Dogwood trees begin to blossom, the crappie are on the banks. So, look for that and also while you're looking for that just take a second and enjoy the changes that are coming. I am Ralphie and I hope this helps and maybe puts a smile on your face.
